Digital Interaction with Audiences

We recently teamed up with ScotInform to run a second creative and cultural industry survey, investigating the current and future appeal of digital audience interaction, and how attitudes have changed since our white label app industry survey in early 2023.

In it we set out to discover:

  • The extent to which creators are currently engaging with audiences on their own devices during performances
  • What creators are currently doing
  • Whether they would be interested in engaging in this way in the future, and why/why not
  • An understanding of the motivations for, and barriers to, engaging with digital audiences in this way
  • The level of interest in a technological solution provided by Civic Digits

Civic Digits was also keen to understand whether attitudes and behaviours had changed since January 2023. You can now download the results of the survey below.

White Label App Survey

In 2023, Civic Digits wanted to find out whether there was appeal for an app that would allow content creators (artists or event organisers, for example) to interact with a live audience on their own devices. This interaction could take place in a venue or as part of an online experience (but not on the device on which they are watching the performance).

Partnered with ScotInform, Civic Digits undertook a survey, engaging with the creative and cultural sector to determine the demand for such a product. You can find the result of that research in the file below:

The Carbon Footprint of Online Digital Performances

In 2021, Civic Digits was part of a comparative study researching the carbon footprint of online digital work, vs ‘traditional’ touring of work in Scotland. The study was led by Divjot Kaur Narula at the University of Strathclyde, with support from Creative Carbon Scotland.
